What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your nervous system controls the function of virtually every cell, tissue, organ, and system of your body. Without the use of drugs or surgery, chiropractors play an important role in maintaining a healthy spine and body.
What is a Subluxation?
Subluxations are misalignments of the spine, or areas of the spine with restricted joint motion. Subluxations cause nerve interference, hindering the body from functioning optimally. Subluxations lead to altered biomechanics; and this, in turn, leads to abnormal wear and tear (OSTEOARTHRITIS), poor posture, increased sensitivity to external stresses and PAIN!
The Chiropractic Adjustment…..
The Chiropractic adjustment is the method used to restore proper function to a spinal joint. This is done by placing a very gentle force into the malpositioned or restricted joint. Dr. Compel utilizes the Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique which is based on an understanding of body mechanics and force as the key to addressing the presence of vertebral subluxations and structural misalignments. She uses an analytical method which monitors the biomechanical feedback of the body to produce consistent changes using a light specific adjustment without the twisting or pulling usually associated with Chiropractic. The Activator instrument is a small hand-held mechanism that delivers a quick percussive, specific dynamic thrust.
By restoring the normal motion of a spinal joint, proper communication of the nerves in that area are reestablished, and the body can now function optimally.

What Should I Expect From My First Chiropractic Appointment?
The first appointment includes a consultation in which the your chief complaint and medial history are discussed with Dr. Compel. The consultation is then followed by a focused examination designed to determine the area of dysfunction related to your complaint. To rule out an underlying pathology, a referral for X-rays may or may not be necessary.
Dr. Compel will then discuss her diagnosis, treatment plan, prognosis and any alternative treatment options. Treatment will start following the report of findings provided your consent as the patient to begin chiropractic care is given. Dr. Compel will work with you so you can choose the level of participation that supports you in reaching all of your health goals.
